“多喝热水”不是多喝hot water好嘛！会死人的！
那句包治百病的“多喝热水”，若要翻译成英文，并不是“drink more hot water”。“hot”有很多意思，不只是“热”，而且“热”也不是“热水”的热。She is hot.这句话不是说：她很热。而是说“她很性感。”经常有人平时没什么事就说一句“I am hot”，这会让老外觉得你是变态的，没事就说自己性感。当然这句话也要看语境，如果是在天气很炎热，或者你刚跑完步，说这句话比别人就会理解成你很热。
He is one of the hottest young talents around.他是这里当红的青年才俊。“hot”在这里表示“受欢迎的，得宠的”。
I've been so hot-tempered lately.我最近脾气一直不太好。“hot”在这里是说脾气暴躁，易怒。
The energy policy became a hot issue.能源政策成了热门话题。“hot”是说“热门的”。
除此之外，“hot food”不是说“这个食物很热”，而是说“这个食物很烫”。“hot water”不是“热水”，而是“滚烫的水”。“热水”应该是“warm water”
还有现在很火的一个词叫“hot desking”，不是说桌子很热，用了什么高科技可以自动散热，而是一种“公用办公桌”的概念。指办工桌不规定给谁用，谁想用谁用。
