荔枝与外语词汇
中国是荔校的原产地，不仅将荔枝树输出种到国外，还为世界增加了一个词汇。1656年，波兰传教士卜弥格出版了世界上第一本关于中国植物的专著《中国植物志》，书中图文并茂地介绍了原产于中国的荔枝、杧果、椰子等30余种热带、亚热带植物和少量动物。专著用拉丁文书写，写到“荔枝”时，他用了中文发音"Ii-ci”来表示。后来英文也采取了相同的方式，按中文发音创造出一个新的英文词汇“litchi” ，或者“lychee”。（《中国植物志》上关于荔枝的记载）
《牛津英汉词典》对litchi 或lychee词源的解释为“late 16th century:from chinese lizhi”( 其中文意思为“16 世纪末期，由中文的‘荔枝’音译而来”)。
Lichi(或lhee)，这源自中国的词汇，与china(瓷器)、kungfu( 功夫)等词汇一样， 为世界语言文化注人了中国元素。
